Kingdom Hearts 4 verschijnt eind 2027 op PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 en PC. En dat is niet het enige nieuws: Disney kondigt ook een originele Kingdom Hearts-anime aan voor Disney Channel en Disney+. Twee dikke stukken nieuws in één keer, en dat voelt best als een cadeautje voor iedereen die al jaren op Sora en co wacht.
De anime wordt ontwikkeld in samenwerking met gamebedenker Tetsuya Nomura en het creatieve team van Square Enix, aldus Disney in de aankondiging. Het wordt geen letterlijke navertelling van de games, maar een gloednieuw verhaal dat het Kingdom Hearts-universum uitbreidt en de bekende personages een nieuw podium geeft.
Disney Kids & Family-president Ayo Davis licht de keuze toe: “Kingdom Hearts has captivated gamers everywhere with its unique blend of adventure and imagination. There’s something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way. And with a creative team that is working closely with the legendary Tetsuya Nomura, our new series will be unmistakably Kingdom Hearts, while giving fans a whole new way to experience the world they love,” aldus Davis.
